Neophyte

Hello.

I thought I might try my hand at one feature of MySpace (and the internet for that matter)I have yet to tackle- blogging. Ugh. Just the term sends shudders up and down my spine amongst a wishwash of ill-fated attempts at self improvement peppered through my life, but hey its my time damnit, I can waste it however I choose! It seems that I have an affinity towards good intentions, but once the varnish wears off and the new car smell is gone I tend to toss said intentions aside like a shedded skin. I suppose this is the case for most people, but I am not other people, I am me. I guess only time will tell whether or not I look back on this moment as the beginning of a new era of my life or simply just another autumn evening.

Let’s see- current events in my life… I am still alive- yay! Actually, I have gone through a bit of a rebirth in the last month or so. After my attempt at a metro lifestyle blew up in my face in the form of a fallen-through job offer in New York, I find myself typing this entry in an apartment curiously close to the interstate for the price in Knoxville, Tennessee, the same town where I spent the last five years of my life in art school at the University of Tennessee. I suppose Knoxville is not such a bad town once you get to know it- there is a small but thriving art community here and lots of nice, familiar people around but I can’t help but think that I would have had a more “interesting” time in New York (minus being ass-to-elbows in the subway during rush hours). The traffic problem in Knoxville which drove me to swear I would live in some sort of metropolitan area with a good public transit system seems to not be as much of an issue with my current residence vs. place of work, which is a good thing. I have a fuel-efficient car, and have a nice back road route to work that helps a lot to dilute the road rage I found myself gathering with the previous routes I had to take, and that is a good thing… a very good thing. I need to find a way to get to work on my bike without being run over (i.e. find a route throught a series of neighborhoods and avoiding the two-lane road that I currently take to work. (I know that many people use “major” roads to bike to work, but I honestly don’t trust Knoxville drivers any farther than I can throw them and their cars (which ain’t far, believe me)). To drive this new route to a new job in my new apartment, it is only fitting that I drive to work in a new car (a 2006 Honda Civic, only 30 miles on it when I bought it). I LOVE IT. I won’t go into how I wound up with a new car, it’s a bit of a personal issue I’d rather not get into at this point. Anyhoo- the drive to work is a lot better, let us let it rest at that.

I suppose this is a good first blog entry, so for now I will say adieu. Thank you, those select few that feel they know me well enough or were inticed by my imagrey-laiden writing to actually read through this whole entry.
